Walmart to sell merchandise while live streaming on TikTok

Walmart Inc. has reportedly collaborated with the video-sharing app TikTok to sell items featured in content from the app’s popular creators without having to leave the platform during a livestream, which will take place on Friday on the retail giant’s TikTok profile.

Sources cite that the show will be created around the fun of fashion, as creators unwrap numerous fashion styles and try on looks that can be easily found at Walmart. The livestream will feature some of the renowned brands such as Kendall + Kylie, Free Assembly, Jordache, Scoop and Sofia Jeans, and Champion. The company’s online sales have accelerated during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as customers preferred to shop online rather than going outside.

This exclusive live stream experience will take place on December 18 at 8 p.m. on the company’s TikTok profile. Ten popular TikTok creators, including Michael Le, who is famous for his dance performances and is one of the most followed users on TikTok with around 43 million followers, and other popular creators will come together for a one-hour live stream, named the ‘Holiday Shop-Along Spectacular’

The world’s biggest retailer’s planned investment in the video-sharing app will help it engage with millennials and supercharge its battle with rival Amazon Inc in online advertising and e-commerce. However, political tensions between China and the US, and uncertainty continue to stand in the way.

Speaking on which, William White who is the Chief Marketing Officer of Walmart US said that the collaboration gives the company a new way to engage with users and reach potential new customers.
