Walmart to provide self-administered COVID-19 testing in New Jersey

COVID-19 testing in New Jersey is expanding, with American multinational retail company Walmart offering self-administered swab tests at selected locations in the area, strictly on appointment basis in order to expand the testing capacities in the region.

Reportedly Walmart locations providing the testing services include Howell, Kearny, Garfield, Mount Laurel, North Bergen, Burlington, and Flemington. These tests will be conducted thrice a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In a statement by Phil Murphy, the Governor, the Walmart pharmacists along with trained medical volunteers will provide test kits, and the result of the tests can be obtained in nearly two days. The people seeking to purchase the test kits will be required to follow a particular safety protocol, he further stated.

For the record, testing will be carried out only for those adults that meet CDC, state, and local guidelines regarding those who can be tested, like, healthcare providers, first responders, those showcasing coronavirus symptoms as well as those in high-risk groups without any symptoms.

Notably, once the people being tested reach the site, they will be required to wear a mask and stay in their cars for ID check, verification of eligibility criteria, and self-administered test. These tests are strictly on appointment basis and not open for walk-ins.

Apparently, the Walmart testing centers in New jersey will use self-administered nasal swabs that will permit those who are being tested to swab their nose while in their cars. Moreover, they will be observed by a medical expert to ensure that the sample is taken in a correct manner and the sealed sample is dropped into a container on their way out of the facility.

Citing sources, testing will not be conducted inside the Walmart store to ensure the safety of the store employees and other store customers. Appointments for the test may be made through Quest Diagnostics- a leading American clinical laboratory, at MyQuestCOVIDTest.com
