ComfortDelGro to launch an all-in-one smartphone app for commuters

ComfortDelGro to launch an all-in-one smartphone app for commuters

By early next year, consumers across Singapore would reportedly be able to book a private bus, taxi, automobile rental, and leasing services from the ComfortDelGro Group via a single smartphone application.

The new app will also include features similar to those seen on ComfortDelGro's Zig app, such as table reservations in restaurants.

ComfortDelGro stated that the proposed giant app will make it easier for clients to access its different services. Along with that, in the future, the app will include other features such as learner driving services and medical transportation.

In a currently ongoing strategic review, the intended mobile application is connected with a reorganization of all the business units of the organization. Moreover, as part of the reorganization, the ComfortDelGro Bus, ComfortDelGro Taxi, Zig, and ComfortDelGro Rent-a-Car units will be consolidated into a new entity named the Private Mobility Group (PMG). The newly formed PMG will have a fleet size of over 12,000 vehicles.

Jackson Chia, ComfortDelGro's group chief risk and sustainability officer, will lead the PMG. Furthermore, Chia will maintain both positions until a replacement for his present role is found.

Mr. Chia stated, throughout Singapore, the ComfortDelGro Group has a broad range of mobility solutions. Pooling the resources in the Private Mobility Group will allow the company to build intelligent and green multimodal customer mobility solutions. The Group will be more capable of building partnerships for experimenting and providing new goods and services.

Through a unified digital platform, corporate and individual commuters will be able to access the company’s range of lifestyle and mobility options. The goal is to cross-market CDG's vast range of transportation solutions to make them more accessible to the many communities the company serves.

The proposed app is another move in ComfortDelGro's shift toward more online services, albeit the company's primary business remains transportation.

In March of this year, it introduced the Zig app, which was billed as a one-stop shop for transportation, food, and entertainment.
