Biden signs executive order for the US to go carbon-neutral by 2050 
As per the recent executive order released by U.S President Joe Biden, the government will become a zero-emission contributor to the climate crisis by 2050 by reducing carbon output and switching to an all-electric fleet of trucks and cars.



The federal government is the country's biggest energy consumer, employer, and landowner; and it has pledged to set an example in addressing the dangers of climate change by reducing greenhouse emissions from its operations.



According to the order signed by Biden, the government will supposedly cut its carbon emissions by 65% by the end of this decade, ultimately achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.



The administration's 600,000 automobile and truck fleet will be modernized, with all new vehicle purchases beginning in 2035 being zero-emission models. This date will be accelerated for light-duty vehicles, commencing in six years.



The directive also mandates that by 2045, 300,000 federally owned buildings produce no net emissions, with a 50% reduction in emissions by 2032.



By 2030, the government will acquire all its electricity from renewable sources such as solar and wind, as well as all procurement choices made by the massive government structure will be net zero emissions by 2050.



As per RMI, a non-profit clean renewable energy organization, the executive order will address around 15% of all carbon emissions in the country.



The pledge is Biden's most significant one yet towards his target of decreasing overall US emissions to net zero by 2050. Other similar targets established by the president include getting USA's electricity grid fully renewable by 2035 and having 50% of all future car sales in the U.S. be electric by 2030.



Though Biden has laid out one of the most ambitious renewable energy program of any US president to date, he has lately been chastised by environmentalists for pushing for a rise in oil consumption to cut fuel prices and for handing over massive areas of land and sea to oil and gas companies.
