  • Units of Siemens AG and Macquarie have formed a new joint venture to offer EaaS solutions
  • The new joint venture named ‘Calibrant Energy’ will operate in the distributed energy segment

As per the latest news, units of Siemens AG and Macquarie Group have reportedly formed a new joint venture named ‘Calibrant Energy’, which will operate in the distributed energy segment.

Macquarie’s SIS (Green Investment Group (GIG), Siemens’ SI (Smart Infrastructure) and SFS (Financial Services) have formed this joint venture to offer onsite EaaS (Energy as a Service) solutions at zero up-front cost for its clients including corporate companies, municipalities, schools, universities, and hospitals. The joint venture will utilize Siemens’ technology and Macquarie’s capital to be at forefront of the EaaS landscape.

In recent years, private and government organization agencies across the world have been transitioning from traditional energy sources involving fossil fuel-based power plants to localized systems using clean energy and battery storage called distributed energy. The distributed energy sector is likely to attract investments worth around $110 billion over 2020-2025. Companies across the globe have started invested significantly in the distributed energy sector to offer flexible solutions.

Last month, one of the leading global investment firms, Blackstone had invested in distributed and sustainable energy space and created a new portfolio company named ‘ClearGen LLC’. The new platform deployed an initial USD 250 million funds managed by the company’s global credit investment platform named GSO Capital Partners LP.

The new firm will finance and own distributed energy infrastructure assets targeting industrial (C&I), commercial, and institutional clients in North America in sectors including healthcare, real estate, telecommunications, technology, industrial and other C& I energy clients.

ClearGen will offer programmatic investments and flexible capital solutions in collaboration with developers, equipment manufacturers, and energy service firms who build, develop, and operate distributed infrastructure.
