Amazon announced that it has opened three new logistic centers in Brazil to benefit from the boost the e-commerce sector has got in South America's largest economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These units are reported to be operating already in the Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, and the capital city of Brasilia. With the introduction of these new centers, the e-commerce giant has reached all corners of the huge country. Furthermore, while adding 75,000 square meters of distribution space, this expansion is reported to be the biggest by Amazon since it started operating in Brazil in 2012. The company has confirmed that it will create around 1,500 direct job opportunities.
Amazon’s chief executive in Brazil, Alex Szapiro claimed that these new centers will help the company to instantly elevate the number of cities where the Amazon Prime customers can get their deliveries in two days to more than 500 from 400. He added that the company is witnessing the fastest growth in its Prime subscription in Brazil.
Owing to the social distancing and lockdown measures, numerous businesses in Brazil have migrated to e-commerce platforms in recent months. Though the regulations are easing gradually, the migration to the digital platform is continuing.
Amazon Prime was introduced in Brazil in September, which attracted attracting thousands of new merchants of the country due to the ongoing pandemic.
Amazon also announced its expansion in Sweden along with a new shopping site and a clean energy grid to support its data centers. Moreover, this new site, Amazon.se, is launched only for Swedish shoppers and will feature over 150 million products in 30 categories from Swedish merchants.
Last month, the tech giant also stated that it is launching a program that offers to pay customers for their user data. The Amazon Shopper Panel would pay around $10 monthly to people for answering short questionnaires and sharing their purchase receipts from non-Amazon merchants. It affirmed that any sensitive information will be deleted, and the user information will not be shared beyond Amazon. Participants will have the option to delete their information whenever they want.
